5 reasons being in nature is great for wee ones!

Picture this: a world where children trade their screens and plastic toys for climbing trees and making dens. At Willow Den, we encourage families to embrace the wonders of the great outdoors. In this blog, we’ll cover some of the amazing benefits nature has in store for your mini explorers if you chose to send them to Willow Den at the Falkirk Wheel.

Many parents choose to use their child’s 1140 hours funding for Willow Den or split the funding with a mainstream nursery. We will support you with this!

1. Physical Health

The outdoors provides the ultimate playground! Running, jumping, and climbing in nature aren’t just exercises; they’re superhero training sessions that build strong muscles and keep our wee ones strong and sleeping well. Plus being outdoors means their exposed to more Vitamin D, essential in the Scottish climate.

2. Cognitive Development

Welcome to the coolest classroom on the planet: nature! Every twig, leaf, and rock is an opportunity to learn through nature. At Willow Den we devise activities using the natural materials around us, encouraging children to be curiosity, to explore, and to sharpen their problem-solving skills.

3. Emotional wellbeing

Nature is the ultimate stressbuster for children, with soothing sights, sounds, and smells. Forget the overwhelm of lots of children in a small classroom; being in nature makes children feel more relaxed, open, and happier, leaving at the end of the day with sleepy smiles, ready for a good night’s sleep.

4. Teamwork and communication

Willow Den children learn the art of teamwork, communication, and camaraderie. Whether they’re building dens, splashing in puddles, or spotting wildlife, every activity is a chance to bond, share, and make memories with their fellow explorers.

5. Love of nature and the environment

By exploring nature, children develop a deep love and respect for the world around them. We work hard to teach the children about nature, conservation, and why it’s essential we look after our planet. Willow Den will provide a brilliant start for children who will go on to be conscious and caring individuals.

Nature isn’t just a place; it’s a playground, a classroom, and an adventure all rolled into one. Our specialist team of outdoor practitioners work hard to ensure your child thrives in the great outdoors!
